Debate: Is globalization good for the American worker?

Know: The impact of globalization on Americans

Understand: Globalization affects the American worker in profound ways.

Be able to do: Debate whether globalization helps or hurts the American worker


Introduction:

Tomorrow we will debate whether globalization is good for the American worker. You must use information from your handouts and class work in order to make your decisions. You and your team will play the part of one of the four workers from Part II: How U.S. trade policy affects us. With your tables, you will be assigned one role for the debate. Below is a description of what you must accomplish.

Team Roles:


Researcher: The researcher must be sure that facts and evidence from the texts are used to argue whether the this worker has been hurt or helped by globalization. You should type your facts and send them to the Planner.

Historian: You are responsible for summarizing the life story of your worker. You should type your summary and e-mail to the planner.

Planner: The planner is responsible for organizing the PowerPoint for the group. Be sure to e-mail the PowerPoint to Mr. Cotto by the end of the day on Thursday February 10.

Cartographer/Graphic Designer: The Cartographer is responsible for the compiling the maps an graphic for your PowerPoint. You should e-mail your maps and graphics to the planner.


Task Checklist:

Your PowerPoint should include the following:

____Research: facts and evidence from the texts are used to argue whether the this worker has been hurt or helped by globalization

____History: the life story of your worker.

____Maps and graphics: maps of where this workers live and works and graphics to show their story and life.

Grading and Evaluation

Preparation: 20 points for individual work and participation on Thursday before the debate. Behavior, cooperation, and work will be evaluated in class.

PowerPoint: 30 Points for the team PowerPoint final product.

Presentation: 20 points team presentation of PowerPoint

Debate performance: 30 points for the individual debate performance
