Today we read the poem, "Mending Wall" by Robert Frost, examined a brief summary of the wall/fence, and viewed the documentary, "Straddling the fence" starring Thomas Friedman. Evaluate how effective this fence is in making "good neighbors" by referring to the film, the Wikipedia entry, and the poem "Mending Wall". Below is a link to the Wikipedia entry for the fence. Although much of the information should be read with a grain of salt, I think that this page will give you a starting point in the discussion.

The fence is not very affective in making good neighbors. It makes life for both parties involed much more difficult than they have too be. Childrens education is being effected, innocent people are being harrased trying to enter and exit a country. Also people are literally trapt in areas sorrounded by the fence. Holy areas that were suposed to be the Jewish land is now out of their reach and off limits.
During our discussion today, I figured out why this fence is causing so much controversy. It seems that supporters of Israel say the only reason why they are building this wall is because Israeli citizens are "scared" of Palestinian terrorism. Yes, this includes suicide attacks that has been happening recently. But, Palestinian supporters say they are trying to "annex" their land under security. This is also causing Palestinian citizens to take a detour to and from work. In my opinion, I think everyone should sit down and conpromise so that their won't be any problems with people killing people for no apparent reason.
i do not think that the fence is good at all. the first reason why i think that the fnec is no good id becouse it doesnt helpo the people out at all. the fence actualy prevents them from doing what they need to do in there daily lives like go to school. now scince they started building this border people either have to drive a further distance or try thier best to hop over it. in the movie that we watched today in class we saw that the students who were hoping the fence wer going to one of the only jewisha nd palistinian schools. the fence has just become an inconvience for them, and their goal for the next generation. i also think that the people are losing so much by the building of this border/ fence. the reason why i say that is becouse both people are losing places that they use to have to share with one anouther.
yep :)
i do think the fence is affective but i do not think it will be for long people are stating to complain about it ans starting to form there own land because if they just took the fence down and let everyone be together i think that they would have much less problems people ar already starting to sneak over it and it was the jewish land first so they should just have to share it with them and if that does not work then the jewish will just have to find another way to get there land...but so far i do think it is working besides people trying to tear it down and people complaining
To me the fence didn't make much sense in the first place because it didn't work. The fence doesn't really make good neighbors. The fence affects everyone, eveb=n down to the childrens. Boudaries are set and peple are prohibed from places. for exaple the holy place where the Jews worship is banned and set off from them. This fencing problem may not occur to many but to the ones who are affected plenty.

While Mr. Cotto was going over the reasons for the fence being built i realized that it is casuing a lot of problems in the world today. The Isrelites are very concerned that the Palestines are terrorists and is going to bring a threat into their country.Because of what is happening the problem is having a big effect on the workers, they are starting to not go to work because of the Palestines. What i think on the whole situation is that the Isrealian government and the Palestian government should com together as on and look at the advantages and disadvantages of what it would do if the Palestians come to Isreal. If the good outways the bad then it should not be a big problem. I also think that the the Isrealian government should do something to help them all get along.
In reality the fence that is there that is “supposed to separate” the Israelis and Palestinians is not really doing that. That fence basically is just an obstacle in the people’s life because most still manage to get over or through it. But there is still a big controversy over this because from 2002-2005 incidents of terrorism have indeed been reduced tremendously. There are still people though that believe that this barrier violated international law. But when it comes down to it the fence is stopping the lives of people because it’s like they’re being trapped, like in a jail, no way out.
I think the wall is bad! it prevents people from going about their daily lives. Also they spend all this money on building this poorly built pile of cement and don't do anything to enforce it. They have kids and old people (as seen on tv) hoping over the wall. I think this wall is a waste of money. If they want to spend some much money they should have done a better job and have some enforcement of the wall. The wall will not solve anything. They can now just trow bombs and rocks over they wall and run away without being caught.
I do not really understand the poem. We had to read this last night for homework, but I did not really get it then either. Mr. Cotto explained it in class today, but we did not really get into it as much as I wanted to. The poem was really confusing too. I don't understand the part about good neighbors and stuff.
My personal beleif is that the wall is doing more harm than good for the Jews and the Palestinains both. It helps the Jews more because they keep the suicide bombers out but when in reality the wall is not that good, there is missing peices and most of the wall you can get through. It also is hurting people who are trapped because of the walls. The people who can not leave a gated community because of something that does more harm than good to them.It also affects the people who are trying to do simple things like go to school but its hard for them because of the wall.

My opinion on the fence is that the fence seperates to diffirences between the two parties. The children's education isnt that great because they must leave the city and come back by climbing the fences. Also they built the wall to stop some suicide bombers. They did this because they didnt want to take any risk of a terorist attack.
The wall the seperates the two is not effective at all. as shown in the movie people could get right over some parts of the wall without and trouble. such as the people that needed to go to the school that was on the other side of the wall. they would just end up walking over the wall rather than going all the way around it. also the wall has caused many poblems for people because it has traped them. they are boxed in by many surronding walls and fences that were built around them. This stopped kids from going to school because they could not get to it.
The fencing system isn't making a good neighbor, because the peopl on the Israeli side have to worry about suicide bombers and on the Palestinian side they have to worry about children getting blown up on busses and if they get close to the wall a soldier from the top of the wall will shoot them. They have to go through scurity just to cross the wall and are in danger no matter what they do.
