Bush's War:From 9/11 to War with Iraq

We spent much of class today learning about the different players in Bush's cabinet: Rumsfeld, Rice, Wolfowitz, Powell, Tenet. These advisors to President George W. Bush all had various ideas about what should be done to respond to Al-Qaeda(a worldwide terrorist organization based in Afghanistan) and Osama bin Laden(a Saudi Arabian, it's leader and co-founder) who are accused of responsibility for the 9/11 attack. Very early on its clear that some of these same advisors had their sights set on implicating, or involving, Iraq and President Saddam Hussein in the new "global war on terror." The plot is well-documented in the film and website: Bush's War. Here is the link.

Please investigate the website and share something NEW that you learn from this site regarding the tragic turn from fighting Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan to going after Saddam Hussein in Iraq. Summarize what you learned from a photo, event, quote, video clip, interview. Be very specific in what you learn by using quotes, share the web link, and share your thoughts.

Why did the U.S. start out trying to bring Osama bin Laden to justice after 9/11 by invading Afghanistan, then in 2003 invading Saddam Hussein's Iraq in spite of the fact that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11?

Before viewing this video i always thought George bush and dick Channey should have bin blamed for the 9?11 attacks but now i believe Rumsfeld was the main person who could have better handled himself during the time of 9/11.

I think that bush did that because he didn't want to look stupid. We invaded Afganistan but got nothing. We invaded Iraq, but it was for really other reasons.

In the fall of 2001, even as America was waging a war in Afghanistan, another hidden war was being waged inside the administration. Others inside the administration believe they understand the motivation behind some of the vice president's actions. "I think the vice president felt he kind of looked death in the eye on 9/11," former White House counterterrorism coordinator Richard Clarke says. "Three thousand Americans died. The building that the vice president used to work in blew up, and people died there. This was a cold slap in the face. This is a different world you're living in now. And the enemy's still out there, and the enemy could come after you. That does cause you to think about things differently." What followed is well documented: insurgency, sectarian strife, prisoner abuse and growing casualties. But within the administration, a new battle over strategy was being fought -- this one between a new secretary of state, Condoleezza Rice, and Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld.

The reason Bush said invading and turning our attention to Iraq and Saddam Hussein was that he was a "bad man" and that he was develpoing weapons of mass destruction. He said that we needed to keep a watchfull eye on Iraq because their leader was a bad leader and his son would peobably follow in his footsteps.

watching this i have learned a lot. i really lok at Bush differently knowing what really happend and that he was not fully responsible for the war on Iraq. i spent all this time hating and dispizing Bush whenthe real enemy was the secritary of defence. he was one of the people that basicly put us in the war. I comend Bush for putting up with such a fool like Tenet and his plans. something else that i learned was that Bush did a lot to try to help and i did not think that he did or if he even carred but as we all saw if it wasent for Bush most of the things that happend from 9/11 to now wouldent have ever happend if it wasent for him.

the reason why i think that we started out with osam was becouse we knew he did it,. from the video it was clear that we knwe he did it, but as more and more information came along we went away from our original goal. i think we did this was becouse people like rise and rumsfiel put these ideas out on the table. so in reality they are pritty much the real ones to blame for what we did in 2003. i think the reason why we also went to iraq was becouce they had saddam husiane, and no one like him, so we where almost looking for an escuse to take him out. but after we did that i have no real idea why we stayed there, and why we still are there. yep. yep .yep

The reason that they are trying to bring him to justice is because he is the one to blame for 9/11. I always thought that Iraq was the one to blame for 9/11 but this showed me that it was not their fault they are not the ones to blame. The one who should be blamed for this is Osama Bin Laden. My opinion on him is that if he knows that he did something wrong he should just face the facts and own up to what he did but instead he is hiding(so they say.) But who knows what could happen..........

i believe the reason that america knew right awa who attack the world trade center due to the fact that al quada had already attack the world trade center once before. also think the u.s. brought iraq into the war because in the past we have been at war with iraq and george bush and his cabniet wanted to find a wa to get iraq back on the table so could prove that george bush is tough on wmd which iraq suppossedly had and also on terror.

I also think that some of the other people like condeleeza and donald were big contendors in this too. Donald was seen in like 1983 shaking hands with saddam. So I definatly think that he knew some things.

One of the documentary clearly underscores that our elected and selected leaders did not or don't care what anyone else thinks or of the ramifications of their actions. The highest levels of leadership outright lied to us and the world. This series was valuable for me primarily for its explanation of how the "realists" in the military and the Administration were coopted. All of what i learned today have me having some questions on Powel. "Why didn't Powell or any of the others stand up to save our country from a horrible misadventure."

I think George Tenet was the one to blame for the September 11 attack. He knew what was going on in the first place he even said it in an interview. But now, since the Bush Administration found out he said this, he now tries to hide it and say he didn't say it. On another note, Colin Powell {which is Bush's Secretary of State} persuaded Bush to take the case to the United Nations so they can settle it. I think if George Tent said something, maybe the Twin Towers wouldn't been knocked down. Also, maybe security should have been more secure. If they can tap phones, read all of our text messages why can't they have something useful to keep America safe?

I think that we should o just left iraq alone and go to war with Osama Bin Ladan. Now we have killed Hussien and still has not caught the man we were originally after. I really think that Rumsfeld is responsible for the war in iraq but then blamed it on Bush when he had found it was not the right decision to go to war with iraq. Now everyon e is hating Bush for something he is not 100% responsible for.

I believe that all that the republican party did kind of mess up on the 9/11 situation when we went to Afghanistan instead of Iraq or whatever. But i think that Bush maybe could of been thinking that he was trying to "kill two birds with one stone" because if we had went for Osama first we would be in Iraq or S.A looking for him longer then we are in this war rite now, and as strong as Osama is he would put up a fight back. Plus there were a whole bunch of issues that we had flowing around in the U.S such as gas prices and which we needed from Iraq from the gecho and we needed to stop Sadaam Hussein who was a murderer to his own people. But i knew George Bush made a good decision because one of our situations were checked off and the whole world was jumping for joy when they found Hussein. But i think Colin Powell should chedked out the Middle East because that could of been a good aid to us and maybe 9/11 wouldn't of have happened. But see with all these issues its gonna take time for the government to fix, and all you people that think its going to be easy to get those troops outta Iraq then you are hardly mistaken. So thats why i like McCain and i and if we stay in we can try to fix our problems wit Iraq and maybe Saudi Arabia.

P.S- Mr. Cotto i just want you to know that i posted this blog at 8:56 because i want credit for this!! lol

Before we started talking about the 9/11 attack i always believed that Iraq had something to do with the attack. But after watching the video and having the decussions in class i see now that Iraq had nothing to do with it, it was all Al-Qaeda. Although, it seems like the government is trying to make America believe that Iraq was involved with the 9/11 attack. Plus after watching the film clip i also realized that Rumsfeld is the one who believed that we should go take down Saddam while we are getting bin Laden, while everyone blames Bush.

The reason why Osama Bin Laden is the one to blame because he is the one who led the attack on 9/11. At first i thought that it was an accident that a plane crashed into the World Trate center with poor navigation but I see I was wrong. The movie explained it all of couse it was Bin Laden because he the terroist and he doesn;t like us and all proof and eyes led to him

i think bush invaded iraq to try and look good i dont think he did it the right way. by starting a war with iraq i think he just made them even maddr by starting trouble with them.and now he is just killing the americans by sending them out there everyday to fight for a stupid war....

The reason why we went for osama bin laden was to catch because he was one of the ones who was in charge of 9/11. We did all these things in afganistan and came up with not a thing. We went to iraq and got oil and other things but still didn't find what we really was there for and that was to help the iraqians not kill them.

This video clarified me on a few things that alot of people have confused. I don't blame bush as much anymore but he was probably knowing of the CIAs plan to invade iraqu after they were done with the terrorists. I do blame him for letting all of our brothers and sisters die in Iraq he doesn't want to leave but they don't want us their so lets leave.

In the video that I viewed (The Lost Year in Iraq) I saw what was happening in the war in Iraq. I learned that many knew that American was still at war. At that point thousands of young Iraqis were taken and interrogated. Saddam Hussein’s most notorious prison was reopened and then there were seventeen prisons that were turned into boot camps. It was said that many few people that thought that we had three years of barely a year or that we should have ever tried to even completely restructure Iraq’s political system.
I think that American did what it did due to people like George Tenant. He was the director of the CIA and he knew the dangers of what Al-Qaeda could do, but yet he didn’t do anything to prevent the terrorist attacks. Because the attacks weren’t prevented I think the U.S. feels that they have to do something because of all that occurred on 9/11.

A: The U.S. started out trying to bring Osama bin Ladin to justice after 9/11 by invading Afghanistan, but in 2003 we inveded Iraq, because Donald Rumsfeld ordered net workers to find out links to both Sudam and bin Ladin. I agree with Lyndsy when she said that Bush says that we need to keep a close eye on Iraq, because their leader was not a and his offspring would probably follow in his path. I think that we do, but we don't so that we don't create too many enemies.

I think that bush have something to do with the september 11 attack... Bush rejects sadam in not accusing him in that trategy disaster.Based on what bush says "we have no evidence that saddam Hussein was involve in the september 11 attacks". I think bush have something to do with it but his trying to cover himself from this. But then i also think that osama bin ladin planted to do this because in a quote it says "I was not involved in the September 11 attacks in the United States nor did I have knowledge of the attacks. There exists a government within a government within the United States. The United States should try to trace the perpetrators of these attacks within itself; to the people who want to make the present century a century of conflict between Islam and Christianity. That secret government must be asked as to who carried out the attacks. ... The American system is totally in control of the Jews, whose first priority is Israel, not the United States." Based on what osama bin ladin says here i think that he does have something to do with it specifictly on what he says in this important quote.
P.S: I DID A POST BUT I THINK YOU DID NOT APPROVED IT SO I SENT IT TODAY...DONT APPROVED IT LATE IT WASNT MY FAULT...THANKS

I think Donald Rumsfeld made a big mistake trying to find a way to betray and backstab Sudam Hussein. I think we should have just gone to one of our allies and ask to use one of the bases to search for Osama bin Laden and al Queda.
