John McCain will be the Republican candidate for president of the United States this year. Several weeks ago a comic, yet academically interesting, debate emerged about whether McCain is eligible to be President of the United States. He was born in 1936 within the Panama Canal Zone while his father, a Navy officer, was stationed in that American colony/territory. The U.S. Constitution says one thing, but the U.S. code say another! Although the conversation is academic, it is worth thinking about...

I believe that John McCain is eligible to become president because both of his parents are American citizens. Also, his father was serving our country with the military in Panama and he was with his family. Also, Panama is one of our colonies so if his parents are American then he should obviously be an American citizen. Plus, they are far in the election so they can not just pull him out of this election when he has come so far.
I don't think that John McCain should be eligible to be a President because he wasn't born the states where all of our pass president have been born and while I was watching in class it showed a line that seperated America and Panmana and he was born on the Panmana side which means thats he isn't a American citizen so to me he isn't eligible to be our President.

no he is not eligable because when i was doing class work i read that his best friend talking about how all the military faamilies were told if the had a kid while overseas that he could or she could not be president. also it talked about how he had to be natural born in america. not in any military base.
Well, If you look at my video on the home page it says it all!!! But seriously, John McCain should run for president because even though he was born in Panama on a miltary base,it can still be part of the U.S. he can be eligible for becoming president. Yes, he wasn't born in the United States but still, the Military is still part of the U.S. so I really don't know why people are complaining about it now.
Q: Is John McCain eligible to be President?
A: John McCain should not be President or be eligible to become President simply because the odds are against him. In Document G by the U.S. State Department it says, "A child born on the premises of such a facility is not subject to the jurisdiction of the United States and does not acquire U.S. citizenship by reason of birth." Military installations abroad aren't counted as part of the United States. So any child born on a military installation that isn't in the U.S. shouldn't think of being President. The U.S. Constitution states that, "No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States." These are the qualifications of a President, and McCain doesn't meet one of these qualifications, and that is being a natural born citizen.
Is John McCain eligible to be President?
I believe that John McCain is eligible to be President. His father was an American citizen who risked his life for the people of America so that he could help out the United States and then when his son is born in the Panama Canal. He was stationed by the U.S. government to stay on the Panama Canal which was American territory at the time and when he son was just born there it was undecided whether he was an american citizen or not. I believe that he should be eligable because it wasn't his fault that he was born there so he should be seen as an American citizen. Also his parents were American citizens too so he should be one.
I do not think that John McCain should be able to become president. He was notborn a american citizen so he is not eligable to be president according to the 14th amendment. No one children born abroad is not considered a citizen of the US. Even though his parents are US citizens he is not he is pandamen. Sorry he better luck next time the fathers put the amenments there for a reason.
i think that john mccain should not be president. this is because i believe he is not nationaly born. he was born in panama and there for, he should be disqualified. i dont have anything against him it is just that our four fathers layed this rules down for the country to follow till the day it falls to what ever.
I do not think it is right for john Mccain to be president because he was not born in one of the 50 states and in order to be president you have to be from the united states Mcclain is from panama he is not from here even if if his parents are from here he is not so i think there are other people who would like to run and should get the chance to in stead of mcclain who is not even from the united states
I think that John McCain is elgible for the presidency. there are a few reasons to back this up. for one both his parents were born U.S. citizens. Also it is not McCains fault that his dad was stationed in Panama by the united states government when he was born. therefore it shouldn't matter since it's not like they moved to another country and purposley had there child thee. lastly the Panama canal was a territore of the U.S. so technically he was born in the United states just outside the regularly recongnized fifty states.
I think that John McCain is not eligible to become President because he was not born in the United Staes. Even thought his parents are American citizens that does not mean that he is. Todat i was watching a video in class and they showed the border that sepreates the United States nad Panama, also the side that McCain lived on. The side he lived on is Panama. He needs to get over that he was not born an American and can not be the next American President.
Yes i do think that John McCain is eligible for President. Why I think that John McCain is eligible for President because he is techinally an American. The only reason why he was borned in Panama is because his father was in the Navy and was staioned there during that time. It should not be that way because Obama was techinally born in America but lived most of his life in other countries so does that give him a right to not go for President "no" it doesn't. This should not be a problem because you are basically telling everyone in the Navy that their children would not be eligible to becaome President of the United States.
John McCain should be eligible for te Presidency because he was born on a MILITARY base in Panama. A military base is under jurasdiction of the United States government. Based on the 14th amendment if you are born in any area under United States jurisdiction you are considered a U.S citizen. Also, if this amendment did not count for people on military bases, then why do they make people live over seas for so long. Does the government plan to tell people stationed in Japan or Germany that their children can never be president of the united states even though it was the governmetn that sent that persons parents out of the country. I think that if a child is born on a military base, and his or her parents are citizens of the United States, then that child should be considered a citizen eligible for the presidency.
I do not think that John McCain is eligible to be president because in the constitution it states that no natural born citizen may become president. Yes McCain’s parents are both U.S. citizens and he was born on a U.S. military base, but that base was on Panama territory. So even though the base belonged to the Unites States, where he was it was Panama’s own land and it he was born there it would make him a citizen of there. John McCain as a person was not a naturally born U.S. citizen which makes me believe that he isn’t eligible to be the president of the United States.
yes i think that john mccain is eligibgle to become president of the united states of america. the reaeon why i think he is is becouse he is the son of a man that waz the military. he is also an amercan citesen and should not be denied the rights the 14th amendment give him. akso wven though he was born in panema dosent mean a thing when he has was raised by americans. i say this becouse a person in the millitary woudnt raise his son to be a un patriotic person, so the us shouldnt have to wrry about a thing.
agree with the next president obama when he said this is the silly seaseon.
I really do not think that John McCain should be eligible to be president. Not because he is like 300 years old, but because he was not born in one of the fifty U.S. states. He was born in the Panama Canal Zone. But I do think that he will be able to just go on in the race because he is already so far in it. There is only like 5 more months until the election, so I think that they will just forget about it sooner or later.
I do not believe that jhon McCain should become become president and that he should not be eligable to run for president. This is because he was not born in america. He was n0ot naturally born in america. The state department stated that if somone were to become president they would have to be naturally born in america. That fact alone is enough to say that he cannot run for president. The rules and the rules as stated in the movie that we watched and i believe that what that person stated is correct. you cant break the rules while playing a game because that would be cheating. thats exactly what jhon mccain is doing "cheating"
I believe that John McCain shouldn't be elceted into presidency because document G simply said summed up if you weren;t born here or lived here for 14 years them you are not eligble. It wouldn't be fair to the other eligble candidates.Even though his parents are citizens and he was born in Panama, it isn't right.

I do believe that John McCain is eligible to be the president of the United States. This is my personal belief because even though he was born on the Canal Zone it is still considered to be U.S. territory. We controll that part of Panama and for that fact it was an american naval base where his parents were risking their life to serve this country but their son can't be president because they decided to help the country out. Also he has lived in the country for more than 14 vyears he was even a governer (Arizona) but he can not be president. I think if the people vote you in and they agree with your ideas and the way you want to run the country then it shouldn't matter where your from. John McCain is a great canidate and should not, not be able to run for President just because he wasn't born in the 50 states.
I believe that John McCain Should be eligible to run for president because his parents are us citizens and he has became a us a citizen and should be giving the same rights as everyone else...~Jade~
I don't think that John McCain should be eligible to be a President because He was not born a american citizen so he is not eligable to be president according to the 14th amendment. Mccain is from panama he is not from here even if if his parents are.
personally, i believe that john mcCain should be eligible to become president mainly because of the fact that he was born on american soil, territory or not we still controlled the area at the time of his birth making him a natural born us citizen, not to mention that bothof his parents were american to begin with, it wasnt their fault that they were sent to panama because of military purposes, infact that no one can blame them for that since they were following orders from our government, we cannot punnish him for that.
i think that John McCain shouldnt be allowed to be president because he wasnt born in the United States. One of the qualifications for being the president of the United States is that they were native born. The Panama Canal isnt the United States.
I believe that John McCain is and should be allowed to run for president. at the time, both of his parents were U.S. citizens. another reason is that even though his family wasnt in america at the time he was born, they were located on a military base in Panama, which is considered U.S. soil. also when the constitution said that inorder to be qualified as president you had to be born in the USA, i dont think it meant that you werent able to run if you were biorn a military base because your family had to be relocated due to your father being in the navy.
