Today we viewed several photos of Latin America from my personal collection. The countries represented were Honduras, Puerto Rico, Cuba, and Peru. Many people had some idea of where the photos were generally from. Our work was a good introduction to imagining Latin America and thinking about it as a "lost" continent. We also spoke at length about the idea of the "lost" continent. In our blog today reflect on the term "lost" continent.

Q: Reflect on the lost continent.
A: In class we found some of the causes of why Latin America is a "lost" country. Some of the reasons were that Latin America does not have islamic terrorists. And since they have no terrorists there is no reason for us to be against them in any way. There isn't much business investments in Latin America because of the "Wall Streeters" and the labor is too expensive. They get paid high wages in Latin America and that drives business owners away. We have lost focus on Latin America as a country and chaged it towards Latin American people in the United States. Inequality is the worse in Latin America and rebellions and rage have spread over it. The U.S. hasn't traded with Cuba since the late 1950's and since then their music and musicians have been segragated from us. Since we don't hear much news or information from Latinn America it seems lost to us, because we don't have any contact to it.
i think that latin America is a lost continet because now we are so focused on oil prices and the war on Iraq and we just dont have time to worry that much about Latin America. i think that Latin America is a wonderfull place we lost and forgot a lit by putting Latin america to the side.

Well theres many things that i had learned today about Latin America. Ive learned new things like there isnt many buisness, no terrorist an have changed on Latin America as the country that has also changed on the LAtin American people in the United States and many more. Latin America is a lost continent because the United States has not traded in with itz own Cuba since the the late years of 1950's. Since we havent hurd much of the news or the information from Latin America it seems as of it is lost an no where to be found and thats only because we have no contact to or with it.
Today we learned about why Latin America is known as the "lost" continent. America as well as the rest of the world has lost interest in Latin America mainly because everyone is focused on the Middle East. THey are the ones who have the "weapons of mass destruction" and the terrorists. It is sad to see the Middle East as the "Problem child" in this situation but its true. Latin America is not in our sights with economy either becasue Latin America has no recognition by the stock market.

Todays lesson in class was very eye opening to a question I now have: Why is it that Latin America has no issues with other countries and is falling behind the shadows of larger countries in the world? I think that Latin America is considered a "Lost Continent" because it has not really been noticed after September 11th. After September 11th the world has focused its eyes on the Middle Eastern and Western part of the world,(America and countries in the Middle East).Latin America has no nuclear weapons and therefore the United States and Middle East don't need it in order to fight the war in Iraq.
Why is Latin America the "lost" Continent?
Well, one reason is that it doesn't have any terrorists. So that means we won't have a reason to go to war with them. Also, the country itself is poor. In an article I read in class today it said "It is subject to constant shocks, financial shocks, changes in the prices of raw materials it exports". This is saying that the stocks{which is money} are going down because no one is buying their products and poverty is increasing because of this. Also, immigrants are moving from place to place. This says that people are mad because it's making their country compclitated. In my opinion, I don't have a problem with immigrants. They are nice and everything but sometimes they just get too otta control.
Toady in class we learned somethings on why Latin America is a "lost" continent. Some of my thoughts on todays lesson is that Latin America has been subjected to all sorts of experiments in the last 40 years. Also, it may not be in the maps that Washington policy makers look at and investment destinations for Wall Steeters. Latin America is a lost continent because it does not have Islamic terrorist, nuclear weapons, and not apart of the big security system concern around the world.this all happened after Sept. 11.
Today in class we talked about the latin americans and we also looked at pictures we learned about different places and we talked about the things that were there. in the movie that we watched today we saw that. They get high wages and that drives the workers away . There is no reason for us not to like them because there are no islamic people there so we should get along with them very well they have not threatened us in any way so i feel they should be good friends of ours
Latin america is considered a lost contenient because the world has turn its back to it from lack of news. if doesnt have major things going on there like busniess or war. Iraq has war and the Middle East is engaged in war which is why they are "found." going along with busniess, it is a more expensive labor cost in latin america than in countries like china and indonesia. also the government has little control on the people and roits can easily cause a break down of the busniess. that is why Latin America is a lost country in the eyes of the world.
I thought that today's lesson was good because it was something that I had no idea about and it was an expierience to learn about how Latin America is a lost continent. I learned that Latin is a lost continent because they have just become very disconnected from everything thatis going on in the world. Now we are in a huge fight with the Middle East and it makes Latin America become a shadow because there is so much going on with that. The attention of Latin America just got shifted to another place until it became a lost continent.
Today we learned thta Latin America was a "Lost Continent." To me in the video it seemed so ran down and like no ne wants to be there. The country was drya nd lonely, but the people who live there and the famous singers make the best of it. Latin America has it's name because they isn't much investmen because of wallstreeters and labor is way to expensive. Also Latin America doesn'yt have Islamic Terroist. Latin America is lost also because we don;thave any connection or information about them. To us if we didnt hear or look into Latin America we really wouldn't know much about it.

Latin America has become a "lost" country, this is because of the middle east and the terrorists. Also because of the rebellions that have been happening all over Latin America. This is why business men and investors find some were else to put their money in. People in China work for much less wages than people do in Latin America.
Latin America is a lost continent for different reason but one of the main reasons that it is considered a lost continent is because after 9/11 people knew that they didn’t have Islamic Terrorists. Latin America is not much of people’s concern because it doesn’t have nuclear weapons so it is not really seen as much of a danger to us. It also is a lost continent now because it disappeared from the Wall Street so both the attention and investments reduced significantly. And in my opinion I never really knew that Latin America had turned into a lost continent. So today’s lesson helped me learn and understand why it has become what it has like why people are deciding to rebel everywhere like in places in Bolivia, Venezuela, Central America, and the Caribbean.
Today we learned about latin America and how it has seemed to be "lost". Latina america has not been focused on much at all lately. everyones eyes have not been loooking at the continent. Everyone has changed their sights to asia and the middle east. latin America has not been focused on at all lately and has been traped in time. The movie we watched was abouyt all of the old famous latin America people that used to be focused on all the time but are not even looked at now by anyone.
Well, I think that the schema in the beginning of the class was very interesting. We saw lots of pictures from many of Mr. Cotto's adventures througout South and Latin America. I think that Latin America is a lost continent because there has been focus on a lot of other things. The war on terror, immigration, and lots of other things. We and lots of other countries just do not have time for the "little people." The video that we watched in class today was very interesting, too. It was about how there used to be some very famous Cuban singers way back when, but they got lost because America does not really "associate" with Cuba any more.
My thoughts about todays lesson is simply that i understand why Latin America can be considered a lost continent. When you think about it the only things we here about now adays either has to do with money, forign affairs, or something of that nature. But you rarely see or hear anything about Latin America anymore, its as if it dosen't exist key the lost continent.
I feel the reason that Latin America is a lost continent for the simple fact that there is alot things going on right now that we don't seem to really have time for them. We have issues that are very serious and we have to focus on them. Latin America is not as important as the war, or gas prices or even or people for that fact. I think when America gets things straightened out we will have time again for Latin America.
I thought the lesson was good but the movie was boring. I didnt get the point to it. Latin america says is the lost continent because when we went to the middle east we left them behind in the tracks.I think that america will also try to stop free trade. the US has to tie back the relationship with latin america, we have a good relationship with them and we might need them later in life or even war

Latin America might also not be our main focus point because their higher wages are drving business owners away. The business owners then move to other countries such as China and Indonesia because the workers are paid less to make the things that we require. Any attention that has to deal with Latin America is the way we look at Latin American people in the US. We have lost all attention to Latin America and it hasnt seemed to affect anoyone in the US.
I think that today's lesson really got me thinking about do we still have other countries that we might not know about that could simpally be allies wit us. And the reason why i think that is because we all as the U.S got into the stereotype of that somne Latin Americans are to busy trying to get the easy way out by trying to get into the U.S so that they can have a free life and a better life then they have home, and also i think we used to get sources from them and included them in certain activities but we havent connected wit them like we use to because we are focusing on the strong countries.

i think that one reason why americans view latin america as lost is because we have no more interest in it. the government is so focused on terroists now that if the country isnt posing a threat to us, we wont even look twice at it. another reason is that we are now more focused on latin people in america than we are on the latin countries. Latin people are well on their way to becoming the most abundant minority in america today. also latin america has recently lost its place on"wall street". there have not been a lot of investments there and plus we havent traded with cuba since the early 1950's.
Today's class was interesting.Latin America IS a lost continent now that I think of it. American Capitalist society's extreme prevalence, influence, and economic success throughout the world did not come without a cost. While a few "advanced" nations developed faster and faster areas including Latin america were left behind. While we thrive, and others suffer,it becomes clearer and clearer that our greed isn't a victimless crime.
